According to the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, only three male names ranked on the top 100 list in 2006-- Kevin, Kyle, and Kaden-- and none of these names were in the top 20. However, what's trendy about K names is actually the letter C. That is, baby boy names that begin with C are hot, and parents in search of alternative spellings frequently spell these names with K instead.

  • Kevin. At #37, Kevin was the highest ranked K name in U.S. in 2006. A top 20 name between 1957 and 1979, Kevin's slipping in the charts a bit, but still remains a long term favorite. Kevin comes from an Irish Gaelic name that means "handsome beloved."
  • Kyle. Kyle peaked at #18 in 1990, and now has fallen all the way down to #80. Kyle comes from a Gaelic name that means "narrow and straight." An up-and-coming trendy choice is Kyler, which ranked at #265 in 2006. Kyle is occasionally used as a girl's name as well.
  • Keegan. At #225, Keegan isn't hot-- yet. But it's moving up the charts quickly and seems like a likely contender for the next name trend. Keegan comes from a Gaelic name that means "small flame."
