Noah? Nolan? Nelson? Nevin? Here are some uncommon and trendy baby boy names that start with the letter N.

Looking for a baby boy name that begins with N? According to the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, a few of the most trendy choices begin with this letter. However, overall, N is not widely used for boy's names in the United States, so if you go beyond the trendy, you'll find some uncommon gems.

Here are some common and unusual little boynames that start with the letter N.

Popular & Trendy Baby Boy Names That Start With N

  • Noah. Until the last decade, Noah was not a popular name, but it's been climbing steadily and ranked at #325 in 2006. Old Testament names are hot, and as one of the most classic ones, Noah fits right in. Noah comes from a Hebrew name that means "peaceful." A related name that's becoming more common is Noe.
  • Nicholas. This classic name peaked at #6 between 1995 and 2001, and it's still all the rage at #17. Alternate spelling Nicolas is popular as well. Nicholas is derived from a Greek name that means "victorious people."
  • Nathan & Nathaniel. At #23 and #69 respectively in 2006, both of these Biblical names are becoming more common. The names come from a Hebrew name that means "God has bestowed."
  • Nolan. As a Gaelic last-name-turned-first-name, Nolan has all the elements of a trendy name, so it seems likely the name will become very common soon. In 2006, the name ranked at #145. Nolan comes from a Gaelic name that means "champion."

Unusual Baby Boy Names That Start With N

  • Neil & Neal. Somewhat popular during the Baby Boom, these versions of Nicholas aren't used very much anymore.
  • Niles. Miles is gaining some momentum in the U.S., but not Niles, so snatch this up if you don't mind the association with Frasier's snooty brother. Like Neil, Niles comes from the same source as Nicholas. The Swedish version of this name is Nils, and the Dutch version is Niels.
  • Nelson. Nelson Mandela? Nelson Rockefeller? Nelson the "Ha ha!" kid from The Simpsons? Whatever it reminds you of, here's an interesting last name that hasn't caught on all that much as a first name. Nelson is also derived from the same source as Nicholas.
  • Nevin. This Croatian name of disputed meaning sounds like it would be trendy, but it isn't even on the top 1000 list int he United States. If you're looking for an alternative to Kevin or Devin, try Nevin.
  • Noel. Noelle is more popular for girls than Noel is for boys, but here's the ultimate name for a Christmas baby.
  • Nigel. A classically British name, Nigel has never caught on in the United States. Nigel comes from a Latin name that means "black."
  • Nehemiah. Looking for a less popular Biblical name? This one has a great meaning, as Nehemiah comes from a Hebrew name that means "comforter.'"
  • Nash. This uncommon Hebrew name means "at the ash."
  • Nasir. Somewhat popular among Arab Americans, Nasir is gaining in popularity in the U.S. and means "supporter."
