From Owen to Oliver to Otis, here are some common and uncommon names for little boys that begin with the letter O.

Looking for a baby boy name that begins with the letter O? According to the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, there are a few trendy choices that begin with this underused vowel, but for the most part, O is not a common first letter in names. Here are some common and uncommon names for little boys that begin with the letter O,

Owen. Owen is by far the most trendy baby boy O name in the United States. Rarely used a decade ago, the name has climbed quickly up the popularity charts and ranked at #56 in 2006. As a Gaelic name and a last-name-turned-first-name, Owen has all the characteristics of a trendy name, so it's not surprising that parents have rediscovered it. Owen comes from a Gaelic name that means "youth."

Oscar. A prestigious film award? Or a green grouch who lives in a trash can with his pet worm Slimey? Whatever Oscar brings to mind, it's the second most popular baby boy O name in the United States, ranked at #118 in 2006. Oscar comes from an Old English expression hat means "spear of the Gods."

Omar. Ranked at #131 in 2006, the name Omar has multiple sources. In Arabic speaking cultures, the name comes from an expression meaning "flourishing." In Hebrew, the name comes from an expression that means "speaker." Less common variations are Omari and Omarion.

Oliver. Considering the wild popularity of Olivia, it's surprising that Oliver hasn't become equally trendy. It ranked at #173 in 2006. Oliver comes from a French name that means, simply, "olive tree."

Orlando. This Shakespearean and Florida place name is probably best known to Americans through actor and heartthrob Orlando Bloom. Orlando comes from a Germanic name that means "renowned land."

Osvaldo/Oswaldo. Oswald is obscure, but the Spanish versions of this name are catching on in the United States, especially with Hispanic Americans. The names come from a Greek expression that mans "God's power."

Orion. This Greek mythological name is sometimes used for girls as well. Orion was a great hunter who was turned into a constellation after he died-- hence the name of the well-known constellation.

Otto & Otis. Way too old-fashioned for current use? Maybe, or maybe these names are so out they sound stylish. Otto and Otis come from a Germanic name that means wealth.

Obadiah/Obediah. Looking for a Biblical name that isn't trendy? Here's one that hasn't been snatched up yet. Obadiah means "servant of God."

Olin & Olaf. if you're looking for a Scandinavian name, these Old Norse names are ripe for discovery. Olin and Olaf come from a name that means "what remains of the forefathers."
