Victoria? Veronica? Valentina? Check out these names for baby girls that begin with the letter V.

Looking for a baby girl name that begins with the unusual letter V? There are more options than you might realize. With help from the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, here are some popular, classic, and unusual names that start with the letter V.

Popular & Trendy Baby Girl Names That Start With V

  • Victoria. At #28 on the American baby name chart in 2006, Victoria is by far the most popular girl's name in the U.S. that begins with the letter V. Along with current favorites such as Isabella, Ava, and Emma, Victoria is part of the old-fashioned name revival trend. One nice thing about this name is its built-in nicknames-- Vicki and Tori, the former of which was a stand-alone name favorite during the Baby Boom years. Victoria comes from a Latin expression that means "victory."
  • Vanessa. At #79, Vanessa's been moderately popular for several decades now without being overly trendy. It's been an especially popular choice for African American parents. The meaning of this nice is lovely-- it comes from a Greek expression that means "butterflies."
  • Valeria & Valerie. At #127, Valerie remains moderately popular. Meanwhile, Valeria is rising quickly up the charts and is currently at #90. These names are derived from a Latin expression that means "vigorous."

Classic Baby Girl Names That Start With V

  • Violet. This color/flower name is slowly climbing the charts, perhaps because this is the name of the daughter in The Incredibles. For Shakespeare fans, Viola (a name from Twelfth Night) may be a unique alternative. Parents seeking a less trendy name that sounds like the chart-topping Olivia might give these names a try.
  • Virginia. This all-American, classically old-fashioned name isn't even in the top 500 anymore, which is a shame. As you might imagine, Virginia comes from a Latin name that means "maiden."
  • Vivian. Despite the popularity of Pretty Woman, the title character's name has not made a comeback. Vivian is from a Latin name that means "lively." The Spanish variation is slowly becoming more popular-- Viviana.

Unusual Baby Girl Names That Start With V

  • Veronica. Veronica was moderately popular in the 1970s and 1980s, but it's slowly falling into obscurity. The name is derived from a Greek name meaning "bringer of victory."
  • Valentina. Having a February baby? This unique name is derived from a Latin name that means "strong."
  • Venus. If your child is neither the Greek goddess of love nor a fabulous tennis pro, this name may be quite a bit to live up to. On the other hand, it's unusual and chic.
  • Vera. Vera was more popular early in the twentieth century, and it might sound a little dated today. However, designer Vera Wang wears the name well, and she's certainly not outdated. Vera comes from a Slavic expression that means "faith."
