Love the letter Z? Here are some beautiful name choices for a little girl that begin with the last letter.

Parents in search of unique and creative names may find themselves drawn to the funky letter Z. For the most part, there aren't many baby girl names that start with Z that are popular in the United States-- with the one very notable exception of Zoe. Z is a more common first letter of first names in other languages, such as Arabic and Hebrew, so if you love Z, look beyond the English language for some truly beautiful choices.

Here are some baby girl names that begin with the letter Z.

Zoe/Zoey. Since the 1990s, this previously obscure name has been all the rage in the United States. According to the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, Zoe was the 54th most popular name in 2006, while Zoey was also used frequently at #119. The name brings to mind two contemporary popular culture references-- the cute orange Muppet Zoe on Sesame Street, and Jamie Lynn Spear's character on Zoey 101. Zoe is derived from a Greek expression that means "life."

Zara, Zaria, & Zariah. These pretty names aren't used very much in the United States, but are very slowly climbing up from the bottom of the popularity charts. These names have several origins. In Arabic, the names are derived from a name that means "radiance." In Hebrew, the names are related to the name Azariah, which means "helped by God.'

Zion. More commonly used as a boy's name, the name Zion has important religious significance inn both Judaism and Christianity. Zion is also the last human city in The Matrix.

Zora. Of disputed origins, this name is most commonly used in Hebrew and in Slavic languages. Its most famous owner was Zora Neale Hurston, the African American author of Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Zelda & Zelna. Are these names so far out that they're never coming back? Or are they retro-chic? You be the judge. Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda, so there's at least one of them out there. These names have Germanic origins-- Zelda is short for Griselda-- and possibly are related to a German word that means "gravel" or "stone."

Zayna. In part of the Arabic speaking word, Zayna is a common name. It means "fragrant or beautiful plant." For parents looking for similar alternatives to trendy names such as Kayla, Jayla, and Bailey, Zayna may be a refreshing change. Or if you want to play around with letters, try out Zayla or Zaylee.
