Having a baby doesn't have to break the bank. A small investment in a few necessary items will keep the bank account healthy and make baby happy.

Every parent should have a few essential items that make caring for a baby less difficult. The right purchases can save time, make the baby happier and lead to less stress even in the middle of any three a.m. feeding.

Even if parents start out breastfeeding at night, they'll probably later want a good separate place for the child to sleep. Cribs come in many colors and styles. A good choice is one that can later be converted into a toddler bed. Many models offer this feature at minimal additional cost. Some cribs have sides that may be difficult to pull up or down. When purchasing one, make sure to have a working model in the store first. Hold a heavy item in one arm while pulling down the side with the other arm. A good crib should allow anyone to do this easily.

Diaper Bags

Babies require a lot of gear any time they leave the house. Have some place to store all the wipes, bottles, diapers and snacks that are needed for a pleasant outing. A good diaper bag should have lots of compartments for excellent storage. It should open and close without difficulty. The straps should sit gently on the shoulders and distribute weight properly. Models that have pull out changing pads are particularly valuable.

Exersaucer

An exersaucer is a very handy addition to any playroom. They serve as an entertainment center for the child. Once baby starts sitting up, this device can help him learn about his world. The successor to baby walkers that have been found dangerous, the exersaucer provides any child with a safe environment to explore colors and shapes. A good one will have many attachments so the child may have hours of fun.

Nursing Pillow

A nursing pillow allows a parent to position the baby properly for easy feeding. Women who plan to nurse often find this accessory vital. The pillow places the baby close to the nipple and takes the strain off the back. There are many good models on market. A good pillow will fit properly over the abdomen so test it out first. A pillow can also help other caregivers get close to the baby in a safe position.

Rocking Chair

Many smaller babies loved to be rocked. A great way to provide a child with this delightful motion is with a rocking chair. Rocking chairs come in many styles. While is it very nice to have one that coordinates with the rest of the nursery, think about a more grown up model for later usage. Look for models that glide rather than rock back and forth. Many babies prefer this form of motion. A matching ottoman is a nice touch that allows people to rest their feet as they rock.

Sidecar

If choosing to breastfeed, the sidecar sleeper is a must. This wonderful device fits by the side of a bed. It provides a safe haven for a child to sleep next to a parent during the night. Mothers need not worry about rolling over and smothering their children. Night feedings are made much easier if parents don’t have to lift the child from a crib.

Snugli

The granddaddy of all infant carriers and still in many ways the best. This Scandinavian invention has allowed generations of mothers to have usage of their hands even while carrying a baby. The Snugli positions the baby so that it is close to the wearer’s heart. Along with rocking motion when one walks, this can help greatly soothe infants. Snuglis are rather pricey but well worth it. They can also be purchased online or at garage sales.

Find the right baby gear to help make parenting easier. A few easily purchased essentials that serve specific and necessary purposes at low cost will reduce stress and increase enjoyment of the baby. Purchase a diaper bag, rocking chair and snugli and find more time for oneself.
