Looking for an unique name from the Buffyverse? Here are some choices for girls and boys.
As fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer know, the Buffyverse is full of characters with unique and distinctive names. While some of these names are a little too out there (you probably don't want to name your kid Spike), most of the Buffy names are familiar enough to work well for your child. If you're looking for an unusual name for a baby boy or girl, a simple list through the roster of characters from Buffy and Angel will give you some ideas. Here are some suggestions.
Buffy Baby Girl Names
Willow. This melodic name has never caught on, even though Will Smith named his daughter Willow. However, the name is easy to pronounce and familiar, so it's unlikely that people will see the name as terribly strange. And who doesn't love Willow Rosenberg?
Cordelia. This stunning Shakespearean name (from King Lear) will blend in nicely with the other old-fashioned baby names for girls that are so popular, but will stand out because it's so unusual. Another unique choice for a baby girl would be Charisma, as the actress who played Cordelia was Charisma Carpenter.
Anya. Anya is a Russian form of Anna or Hannah, and outside of the Slavic speaking world, it's not a very common name. Its simple, elegant, and somewhat exotic feel makes it appealing for parents in search of an unusual name. For a more unique twist, Anya's original name was Aud, and her demon name was Anyanka.
Harmony. The ditsy cheerleader-turned-vampire isn't the most appealing character on Buffy, but she has a great name. The concept of harmony has so many positive associations, and the name itself is unusual but recognizable because it's a word.
Drusilla. Yes, she's an evil villain, but her name is unique and striking. It also has the built-in nickname of "Dru" if she doesn't like the distinctive moniker.
Darla. Darla's another vampire with a unique name, and one that isn't difficult to pronounce or "weird."
Tara. Though not the most unusual of the Buffyverse names, Tara has a classic appeal that dates back from a Gaelic expression that means "hill." Tara is also the name of Scarlett O'Hara's home in Gone With the Wind.
Buffy. This might make a better name for a cat than a child, as it has such snotty connotations. Nonetheless, it's an unusual name that's easy to pronounce, so if you like it, give it a shot.
Buffy Baby Boy Names
Xander. Xander is a nickname for Alexander, but it's slowly creeping up t here in the popularity polls as a name in itself-- as is "Zander." Xander Harris is as quintessential a Buffy character as you can get, so this is a classic choice for Buffy fans. And unlike other Buffyverse names-- like Willow-- this name is common enough that people won't see the name and laugh because you named your child after the Buffy character.
Giles. Another solid choice for a little boy that's similar but less popular than "Niles" and "Miles." Of course, there's also Rupert, the first name of Buffy's beloved Watcher (and also the name of a popular Survivor contestant).
Wesley. If you preferred the second Watcher, consider this choice, which is also the name of a (much maligned) Star Trek The Next Generation character.
Riley. The name of Buffy's secret military operative boyfriend has become surprisingly trendy for both boys and girls, so skip this name if you want an unusual one.
