Nine months is a long period of time, and your state of mind will make the difference between enjoying or simply enduring the process.
The nine month duration of a pregnacy is actually quite a long time if you stop to think about it. Maybe it’s better if you don’t think about it too much; because the best way to survive and enjoy the process is to pace yourself and to treasure each little step along the way. The most important thing to keep in mind throughout the whole process is to find joy in every little detail; after all, you’re only going to have this opportunity a precious few times throughout your lifetime. Enjoying the little things begins from the moment you feel that first pang of nausea or miss that first period; the quickening of your heartbeat as you complete the pregnancy test, or the first time you hear the baby’s heartbeat. Have fun thinking of creative ways to surprise the baby’s father or your friends and family with the news. After the initial excitement of proclaiming the happy news, all of the doubts, fears, and sickness set in; leaving you an emotional wreck. Especially if this is your first child, you’re bound to worry about everything from the condition of the world as a whole to the size feet the baby is going to have. It is quite normal to experience many fears concerning yourself as well. Common fears include: “Am I going to make a good parent?” “How will this change my body?” “Will I even know how to take care of this fragile little being?” The best way to combat all of your fears, emotions, and hormones is to find ways to distract yourself. You may find some of the following suggestions helpful.
Having a baby is a precious miracle. Despite all of the discomfort, pain of childbirth and sleepless nights, you will treasure the experience your whole life.
