It's very traumatic for a pregnant couple to lose a baby before it's born or shortly after birth. Stillborn photo retouching helps parents grieve a stillborn baby's death

Each year, thousands of parents grieve the loss of a stillborn baby or a baby who dies shortly after birth. The death of a baby is perhaps one of the most emotionally traumatic experiences a parent can endure.

To make matters worse, many parents of stillborn babies do not have any "good" photographs of their lost baby to share with family members and friends. That's where stillborn baby photo restoration services come into play, providing the grieving parents with a beautiful image of their stillborn baby that can be comfortably shared with loved ones.

Retouching Photographs of a Stillborn Baby

When a baby dies in utero, parents are robbed of a peaceful, perfect image of their lost baby. Instead, many parents of stillborn babies are left with photographs of a stillborn child that may have bruising, skin discoloration, skin slippage or other post-mortem imperfections.

And while parents will always possess the ability to look past these imperfections to see their beautiful child, many are robbed of the opportunity to share their baby's first and only photographs with family members and friends.

"It's difficult to look at photographs of a stillborn baby. And the reality is, some of these babies have severe skin discoloration and other features that will make some people extremely uncomfortable - and that's not the effect that you want photographs of your beautiful baby angel to have on people. You'll want to share your only photographs of your stillborn baby with loved ones and stillborn photograph retouching allows for that," explained Boston area photographer and graphic designer Merry Alden.

She added, "When done properly, a retouched photograph of a stillborn baby can be shared with friends, family and your other children. You can put these babies' photographs on your mantle or in your wallet. These photos of stillborn babies are transformed into beautiful, peaceful images that are no longer so upsetting or disturbing."

Alden is one of many photographers and graphic artists who retouches photographs of stillborn babies. The internet is home to many photographers like Alden who volunteer their expertise and talents to help parents of stillborn babies to transform their only photographs into images that can be easily shared with others.

Restoration for Baby Photographs

In addition to restoring photographs of stillborn babies, many professional photography studios like BabyAngelPics.com, offer free or low-cost photo retouching services for parents of babies who die shortly after birth.

Parents of babies who die shortly after birth can submit their photographs for retouching, and experts like Alden will restore the photograph in a way that removes tubes, IVs, machinery and other such items from the photograph, leaving behind only a peaceful image of the parents' beautiful baby.

Some photographers have taken stillborn photography to the next level, providing parents of stillborn babies with a free photography service in their time of need.

One non-profit photographer network called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep provides grieving parents with professional keepsake photographs of their stillborn baby or of a baby who died shortly after birth. The organization was reportedly founded by a Denver, Colorado mother who lost her six-day-old baby and the photographer who captured images of the child.
