Hispanic names are big in Texas, including Jose, the number one baby boy name. Here are the most popular names given to little boys in Texas in 2007.

The top baby names for 2007 are in -- and in Texas, Jose is the number one name for boys. Because of the large Hispanic population in Texas, there are quite a few Hispanic names on the top 100 baby boy list. As is the case of the top 100 baby boy names in California, and the list as a whole looks fairly different than the top 100 baby boy name list for the U.S. nationwide.

According to the U.S. Social Security Baby Name Index, Here are the top 20 baby boy names in Texas in 2007:

  1. Jose
  2. Jacob
  3. Daniel
  4. Christopher
  5. Angel
  6. Joshua
  7. David
  8. Ethan
  9. Juan
  10. Anthony
  11. Michael
  12. Diego
  13. Christian
  14. Jonathan
  15. Matthew
  16. Andrew
  17. Luis
  18. Jayden
  19. Noah
  20. William

Of these 20 names, five of them are Hispanic names, and none of these five Hispanic names are on the list of the top 20 baby boy's names for the nation as a whole. These five names are Jose (#1 in Texas, #35 nationwide), Angel (#5 in Texas, #34 nationwide), Juan (#9 in Texas, #63 nationwide), Diego (#12 in Texas, #58 nationwide), and Luis (#17 in Texas, #60 nationwide).

Of course, there are many other Hispanic names on the top 100 baby boy's list in Texas, none of which are as popular on the U.S. popularity charts as a whole. Popular Hispanic boy's names in Texas include Jesus (#21), Carlos (#28), Miguel (#45), Alejandro (#51), Jorge (#58), Ricardo (#68), Eduardo (#69), Francisco (#83), Antonio (#93), and Hector (#94).

Jose has been the top baby name in Texas since 1996, when it jumped ahead of both Michael and Christopher. Texas stands out as one of only two states where the top baby boy's name is Hispanic. Only one other state has a Hispanic name as its top baby boy's name-- Arizona, where Angel is the top name. California, which shares Texas' long list of popular Hispanic names, does not have a Hispanic name as its most popular (Daniel is #1, with Angel at #3).

The top 20 boy's names in Texas remained fairly similar between 2006 and 2007. There was only one significant leap-- Jayden, which jumped all the way from #52 in 2006 to #18 in 2007.The only other two names to climb more than two points were Diego (#16 in 2006, #12 in 2007) and William (#23 in 2006, #20 in 2007). Jayden and William were the only two new names on the top 20. The only two names to drop from the top 20 were Joseph (#18 in 2006, #23 in 2007) and Alexander (#19 in 2006, #26 in 2007).
