Ugh, Brenda, I couldn't agree more. One of the things that surprised me most about having a baby was how incredibly judgmental people are about mothers' feeding choices. How anyone could feel that breastfeeding in public is a problem is a mystery to me. In my case, I chose/decided not to breastfeed after some postpartum problems. You would not believe how judgmental some of the nurses I encountered were to me. So frustrating! I feel like the only "permissable" option for women is to breasfeed their babies, and in private! We all need to be more supportive of each other's needs and decisions.

I have to agree that it's ironically funny. I remember being on an airplane with a young lady whose shirt was see-thru. No one asked her to "cover it up".

Many babies, mine included, are fussy if their heads and faces are covered with a blanket...I think mine get hot and stuffy. Perhaps this mother knew her baby was the same way and was simply trying to avoid disrupting the people around her by caring for her baby the one any loving mother, and considerate passenger, would. :-)

Blessings, Angela

One thing I do to counteract the negatives is that every time I see a mother breastfeeding in public (and they have ALL been discreet, mind you!) is go up and say something like, "it's great to see a nursing mother.."

I do embarrass my teenage daughters but I think it helps to set a new tone.

I had a woman say that to me once as a gas station. It was a burning hot day so I didn't feel comfortable nursing in the car and was on a long, seven hour car trip. I had no choice but to nurse in public. I was trying very hard to be discreet having just recently had a VERY negative experience at our previous church. A woman walked by me and put her hand on my shoulder and said, "What a good momma you are." It almost made me cry it was so encouraging to me!

Maybe it was you Brenda! **laughing**
