» rigbyrace - Castor Oil to Induce Labor

When I was pregnant with my son, he decided not to come out on his due date. Nor did he decide to come out in the 2 weeks we waited for him to. The day before he was 2 weeks late, my midwife scheduled me for an induction. I decided to try Castor Oil to see if that would get things moving. My midwife advised me to take 4 oz with Orange Juice, and to take another 4 oz 1 hour later. I thought for sure I wasn't going to survive the night (I'd heard horror stories about women who'd taken Castor Oil and were sick through the entire Labor and Birth). But, amazingly enough, I did not have any diarrhea or vomiting. I took the two doses of Castor Oil at 2pm and 3pm, respectively, and I went into labor at 11:30pm that night. My son was born at 7:19am the following morning! It worked for me, but I know that not everyone is affected (or rather NOT affected)the way that I was. I wonder if everything moved so quickly because he was late. But who knows. Anyway, good luck to anyone out there who is brave--or desperate--enough to try this!

Some people use evening primrose oil which is available over the counter. Check with your provider first to make sure it is safe for you to take it. Other methods such as love-making can also be helpful to ripen the cervix.
