» marthalarkin - Soy Formula for baby boys

I keep hearing about how soy formula has estrogen-like properties and it is harmful to babies and my be screwing up hormone levels. When my baby was one month old, I switched him to soy formula based on advice from his doctor. He stopped getting little baby erections like he had before the switch. At 5 months old, I took him off soy when I heard about what soy can do and realized that that may be why my son stopped getting those. Now, at 9 months old, he still doesn't get them. What can I do? Nothing, and just wait and see what happens at puberty? What's normal for a baby boy?

In response to Soy Formula for baby boys posted by marthalarkin:

I do not know what is normal or if giving your son soy formula is causing any changes with his hormones. Most of what if available in the literature is speculation that the isoflavins in soy formula have estrogen-like qualities to them. We do have to wonder if years from now, we will have the research to support some of these theories.

We are certainly seeing the effects of hormone-laden milk products on earlier mentruation in girls so it only makes sense that feeding hormones at any age to boys or girls can alter their development.
