Pregnancy & ChildbirthMy Obgyn Is Applying
» w014474 - My doctor is pressuring me to be induced! My OBGYN is applying pressure to induce my labor at 38 weeks. I told him that I was worried about an increased risk of a cesarean section, and he said my baby would probably be too big to deliver if I went to term. As far as size, my baby was in the 65th percentile at my last ultrasound (the same as my first baby, who was born 8 lbs 9 oz). I don't believe him. I delivered my first with literally five minutes of pushing. I am 5'9" tall; I'm not petite. I don't believe he is concerned about the baby; I think he wants to schedule me between rounds of golf. My husband sides with him, saying the doctor knows best, but he'll support whatever decision I make. It is just hard standing up to your practitioner. He brushes aside my concerns, making me feel stupid for questioning him. I don't know if anyone else has been in the same situation, but I understand why the induction rate is so high. -- posted by w014474

I would recommend that you agree to an induction if there is a clear medical indication. Some of the disputed reasons include estimated weight by ultrasound as well as being "overdue." The bottom line is that you are facing a higher risk for a cesarean if you are induced, even if you have already given birth. Don't forget that this is your birth and your baby. A very good ob told me once that the patients who ask the most questions, get the best care. Don't be afraid to ask good questions! Brenda
