» Ms4tunate - Is it successful

I was 27 years old and carrying my fourth child. I was 37 weeks and tired of being pregnant. I had made it up in my mind that my daughter was coming that weekend. It was Friday evening February 14th. I was driving home from work and I called my aunt that worked in Labor and Delivery. I asked her "Okay Aunty what do I need to do to have this baby?" She told me Castor Oil, about 4 tablespoons and an orange. I stopped at the Walgreens on the corner bought some Castor Oil and a bottle of Donal Duck Orange juice. I went home and did some tydying around the house. I made sure the bag was complete with all I needed as my aunt instructed me to do. I ran a nice warm tub and prepared my pajamas. I was nervous so I prayed. Afterwhich I just gulped down 3/4 of the small bottle of castor oil, maybe 4 to 5 tablespoons. I followed it with the entire glass of Orange juice. I then hopped in the tub and washed up and relaxed. I then laid in my bed and began to watch television. My husband worked for a prison and was at work due to end his shift at 10 PM. It may have been around 9 PM. I felt the first few contractions and they were like those that I had been having for the last three months so I ignored it. Shortly thereafter I experienced a real contraction, one that made me short of breathand I had to actually move my foot to help it pass. I looked at the clock and noticed the time. I waited for another and one after another the contractions began to hit hard and 10 minutes to 8 minutes apart. I then began to worry because I had sometime before my husbands shift ended and he worked 45 minutes away. I had to call my back up. My sister. SHe was security so she had to take off work and coem and pick me up. We went to the hospital and arrived around 10:15PM. They checked me in, hooked me to the monitors and checked my cervix. I wa sonly 2 cm. But my contractions were steady and hard. They walked me and walked me for at least 3 hours. My contractions would not stop but I would not dialate anymore than I had, so they put the gel on my cervix to help it along. Finally I had moved to 4 cm. The contractions were becoming unbearable so they gave me an epidural. Finally mm,y husband arrived and he helped me thru the contractions i could now barely feel because of the epidural. All of a sudden I had four doctors bust in the room. They explained the fetus wa sin distress and propped me for delivery. This was my fourth vaginal delivvery so even though I was only 4 centimeters the head surgeon felt I woul stretch. They put my legs in stirrups and we could hear my daughters heart rate decreasing as she cam thru the canal. SHe came out grey and they clipeped the cord and quickly took her to the side and began CPR. SHe began to cry immediately. I wa sable to feed my 7'9 pond baby girl within an hour or so. She did not suffer any brain damage because she was not under long enough. But it scared me. I never told any one that I had taken the castor oil.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Castor oil can be an effective way to go into labor, however it should never be done without your care provider's approval or before 40 weeks.
