Thanks for your reply Brenda. Yes, I know that there is room to lose weight when one breastfeeds, but I wanted to know whether the 'overhang' of skin will disappear?? Is that only due to having a c-section or do all women get this? Also is it quite normal to feel pain like contractions when breastfeeding? I thought that wasn't supposed to happen with your first child? my loss had stopped but now when i feed i have red blood again?

Hiya
I had a c-section nearly 4 years ago. That overhang does recede a lot but never completely goes im afraid but you do learn to live with it. My friend who is a lot more toned than I am says she still has hers but it is less noticeable.
The pain you are experiencing sounds very familiar. There you are with a babe latching on (which can be painful until you both get used to it), trying to get your tummy comfy and having crampy pains as well! I remember it well! and im just about to have my second in April the same way!!
I remember the bleeding too. It got worse for me the more I tried to do so rest as much as you can.
Hope this helps.

I did want to respond that not all mothers get that extra skin after a cesarean.
It is normal to have mild contraction-like pain during breastfeeding.

Hi Anjum -
Weight gain in pregnancy is hard to lose for many women, especially if you gained a lot. The shaking belly will get smaller eventually but you also have to get out and do some exercise like walking or yoga. I had my c over two years ago and it took about 6 or 7 months for the pain to go away completely. My scar is a lot smaller now than it was after I had my daughter. It's still noticeable, but much less so.
A C-section is a big thing and it will take your body some time to heal and recover. I think eventually you will be okay, especially if you eat healthy foods and make sure to exercise.
Good luck!

Hi Janelle -
All I can tell you about the weight loss w/breastfeeding is that it isn't necessarily true. I didn't lose weight until AFTER I stopped the breastfeeding. I have spoken to several other women who have had the same experience. I think it really depends on the woman.
The skin will shrink considerably over the next few months but, as someone else mentioned, most women who do have babies have that cute little belly that they can't do anything about.
The pain while breastfeeding is common and should stop when your uterus reduces in size again. Within a few more weeks at the latest.
